    Celebrating “It is Finished”

    It’s hard to believe two Sundays ago was Easter, the day we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection. To those who aren’t Christians and even to us who are, when the Easter egg hunts and Easter dinners are over, the celebration, fading into a sweet memory, could feel as if it has hardly been here at all. The happenings in our daily lives, once again taking center stage in our hearts and minds, try to crowd out the amazing truth of what happened a little over two thousand years ago when on the cross Jesus said, “It is finished.”

    For when Jesus spoke those words, the war between good and evil was over. When God, the Father raised Jesus from the dead, God’s victory—like a rising sun that will never set—rang out over sin and death for all eternity. And forevermore in our lives, if we would believe Him.

    That’s what Jesus asks us to do. (See John 6:29.) He asks us to jump wholeheartedly into His promises as if they are lifeboats to a sinking ship…even when they are a warning spoken in love….
